How it works

How gift cards work in Treka

  1. 01

Switch sales on and set the rules

In the portal, turn gift card sales on, set the smallest and largest amount a buyer can choose, an optional expiry in months, and the terms you want shown, such as redeemable on any trip or non-transferable.

  2. 02

Buyers pay on your gift card page

Your site gets a gift card page, linked from your navigation and your booking pages. The buyer picks an amount, adds the recipient's name and email and a message, and pays by card. The recipient receives the card by email with its code.

  3. 03

The code is redeemed at checkout

When the recipient books, they enter the code on your booking page or widget. Treka checks it against your company, applies the balance, and charges the card only for whatever is left.

  4. 04

You see every card and every balance

The portal lists the cards you have sold and issued, with the remaining balance, the recipient and the orders they were spent on. Partial redemptions leave the rest on the card for next time.

Why gift cards matter more for guides than for shops

A guided trip is a gift people want to give and rarely know how to. A gift card turns December, when nobody is on the water, into revenue for a season that has not started yet, and the recipient becomes a guest who books a date rather than a lead you have to chase. Operators who have never sold cards are often surprised by how much of it happens in the two weeks before the holidays.

The reason it does not happen more is that selling cards used to mean a separate product, a separate page and a spreadsheet of codes. In Treka it is a switch.

Credit instead of refunds

Weather cancels trips. When it does, a refund as credit keeps the guest and keeps the revenue; the guest rebooks for a later date with the balance already paid. Treka can issue that credit automatically as a gift card when you refund, so the guest has a code in their inbox the same day.

How do guests buy a gift card?

On your gift card page, part of your Treka booking site. They pick an amount within the limits you set, add the recipient's name, email and a message, and pay by card. The recipient is emailed the card and its code.

How is a gift card redeemed?

At checkout on your booking page or widget, the guest enters the code. Treka applies the balance to the booking and charges the card only for the remainder. Whatever is not spent stays on the card.

Do gift cards expire?

That is up to you. Set an expiry in months, or leave it blank for cards that never expire. Check the rules for gift cards where you operate before choosing an expiry.

Can I set the amounts buyers can choose?

Yes. You set the minimum and maximum amount, and buyers choose any value between them. You can also write the terms shown to buyers, for example that cards are redeemable on any trip.

Can I refund a cancelled booking as credit?

Yes. Turn on refunds as credit and a refund can be issued as a gift card for the amount, emailed to the guest, redeemable on any future booking with you.

Where does the money go when a card is sold?

To your own Stripe account when the card is bought, like any other payment. A 3% booking fee is paid by the buyer at checkout and Stripe's processing is billed at cost.

Is this included, or an add-on?

Included in every plan. Every company starts with 30 days of Core, free. After that Core is $99 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly ($948), and Pro is $399 a month, or $329 a month billed yearly ($3,948). Pro adds custom AI agents, SEO optimization and a named contact. A custom website built by our team is quoted separately; book a demo to scope it. A 3% booking fee is added at checkout and paid by the guest; Stripe's card processing (2.9% + 30¢) is billed at cost. No contract.

Can I bring my existing trips and clients over?

Yes. Point Treka at your current website and it imports your trips, prices and photos; client lists come in from a spreadsheet or an export from your current system. Self-serve setup is free, and white-glove migration is $749 one-time on monthly plans and free on annual.
